The Excellent Book says “Look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” Many times I have heard various sermons say sometimes we struggle because we are focussing on the wrong thing. We focus on our problems and don't keep our eyes and focus on Jesus. This is not to say the problems are not there or they are not heavy. The are very much present and take a toll on us. Sometimes too much and this is why the Excellent Book says cast your cares onto Jesus because he cares for you.
Not only does he care for you but can lift you and your burdens on his shoulders and hands. What makes him qualified for this? A common question and requirement in our human world. You won’t seek the service/help of someone unless you know they are fit to provide that service. It is such an honour to display what makes Jesus qualified to carry your cares, troubles, worries and concerns.
First, in the beginning, when there was no earth he was there in the very select and elect committee that decided to make man in their own image. He knows you inside out! Ask Long haulers like myself who are frustrated that all these high tech equipment can not show anything and therefore uncover why 3 years later, we don’t know why we haven’t recovered to 100%. Jesus with his eyes and wisdom, knows exactly what is going on. He knows how it started and when it started and who contributed and what would solve the problem.
Secondly, he is qualified to carry your cares, troubles, worries and concerns because, of all the 7.8 billion and counting people in the world, he is the only one who loves you more than all these 7.8 billion combined can ever do, if they got over their selfishness, bias, racist views and came together to love on you unconditionally. I know this because Jesus is the only one who has died for you.
Many people from the military, police force, fire services, and civilians may say someone died to save them. A mother/father/brother/sister/family/friend may have jumped in front of a car and died to save their loved one out of love but still, its not and can never be the same calibre as the love of Jesus. I am not denying these humans great demonstration of love. What I am saying is when they saved their loved one, they didn’t save them eternally.
One day they will still have to go through the cycle of life. On the other hand, Jesus has saved us such that if we believe in him, we will not perish but have everlasting life. Only Jesus can save us like that. If he can save us in an eternal way, not a plaster, band-aid, temp-fix, silicone, plastic way it means he can save us from all other non-eternal stuff. Which also tells us sometimes we need to try our best not to be so worried about things that will not even last or matter when this life is over. Jesus help us.
Thirdly, yes its about how Jesus has saved us but its also how he saved us. Jesus we know is God the Son. God lives in heaven, a place of holiness and perfection. A place where angels sing and are busy getting and executing their assignment from God whether in a work-from-heaven setting or work-from-earth-setting or hybrid. Either way the angels are busy with God’s work. Jesus is so qualified to carry our cares because he chose to leave the place of perfection and come to the place of…trash out of love and pure selflessness.
The saddest part about it, is earth wasn’t created that way but that’s a different story. But here is the thing about how Jesus saved us. He chose to come in the form of a baby (true entry level) that lives in the womb for 9 months, in a tight restricted place, yet he had all the space of heaven! I don’t know how many square footage heaven is but I know it exceeds the largest mansion on earth. Jesus left that to come to trash because he loves you and did not want you to perish. Such selflessness qualifies him to carry your cares, troubles, worries and concerns.
The fourth reason is where his great expertise in carrying our concerns also comes from. God is all knowing, all loving and all understanding. The humans we are, we will not understand this. Jesus knew this and that’s why he decided to come as a human so he can live every single human experience in the human spectrum from joy to unexplainable sorrow. He wanted us to understand that when he says he knows what we are going through, we believe it fully, not only because he is God who knows everything, but because he has gone through it personally! He KNOWS! But even then our stubborn, hard headedness and unbelief won't allow us to get that he understands the human experience better than all humans combined.
The Excellent Book will show you how he understands the human experience, from the beginning when Adam and Eve chose to eat that fruit, he knew what it was to be rejected but felt it in a way that we can relate to when he was in his ministry. He was thrown out of places to the point they wanted to throw him off the cliff, for speaking the truth. Jesus had a home town but his personal residence or head quarters during his time on earth is not mentioned meaning, Jesus was homeless.
Jesus went to his own country to do his mighty works but instead they questioned and didn’t believe in him. Isn’t that the human experience when you are starting something new and people don’t get you and most of all show clearly in their words how they think very little of you and how they don’t think you will do what you are saying you can do? I have experienced this myself as I am starting my health coaching practice.
Jesus story of driving people out of the temple is something we can relate to in that how many times do you expect people to operate in a certain way because you have told them and made it clear yet they do the complete opposite! How does that make you feel? Jesus knows all about this not even from the sellers in the temple but the continuous human rebellion story with God.
Rejection, betrayal, abandonment, grief, heavily burdened, heavily troubled, sorrowful, torture, trauma, he felt all of this when his disciples left him alone when he was arrested, when Judas sold him for 30 pieces of silver, when Peter denied him, when Lazarus died, when he was tried, when he prayed to be delivered from the cup, when he walked a long distance as he carried his cross, when he was nailed to the cross having been whipped before, when he knew he did nothing to deserve the treatment he was receiving. This last one, every human knows and is the reason many people ask WHY! OR WHY ME.
I mentioned there was an elect committee that sat together to create the world. In your suffering, pain, grief, sorrow, trauma, you my friend are in a select group with Jesus as the head of the group. The devil wants you to believe you are alone. you are not! Jesus knows everything about how you feel more than you even know and is right there with you. There are nooks and crannies in you where your pain is sitting, and you have not even touched that spot.
How do you touch something you don't know is there? This is why you are not and never will be qualified to carry your own cares, troubles, concerns and worries. You don't even know the full extent of them! Jesus sees those nooks and crannies more than a high-tech scan can ever reveal. When he says he knows your pain and asks you to cast your cares on him, these are some of the reasons why he is qualified to carry them for you. He knows exactly what they are and exactly how to fix them.
You have gone through a lot, but it still hasn’t and will not give you the strength to carry your cares on your own. Jesus with his power as God the son, creator who makes things fearfully and wonderfully, saviour who gives his life so you can not perish, High Priest who has been praying for you, when you can pray for yourself and when you can’t (how many times is that?) is so qualified to carry your care, troubles, worries and concerns because he knows them one by one and most of all can do something. You can’t. You can try but when you let him, you see things fall into place and realise actually there is no way you could help yourself the same way he does. There have been many physical storms around you, have you ever told one peace be still, and it obeyed you? My friend, you are not qualified to carry your cares. Give them to Jesus.
This is what I've been trying to do in the last weeks in a different way. The previous week as I testified in my “Apple Crumble” post, I have started the journey of looking at Jesus and all I have said about him in the previous paragraphs. When you look at Jesus, you see how he wins, how he created you to fly and soar, and how he has sent you the Holy Spirit who is now your superpower. Superpower because he brings life where there is death. He causes things to be that should not be!
My testimony is that last week having chosen to look to Jesus not my problems, I saw him do some wonderful things in the areas I need wonder and splendour. I got more phone calls of interest in my practice, I got more subscribers to my newsletter, without making the usual effort that I have been making. I also got a client who surprised me because it didn’t look like they would join my programme. Look at God!
Looking at Jesus and focussing on all I know about him, while reciting any verse I knew, when the problems wanted centre stage, made me stay on Who God is (The God of the impossible) as opposed to being bombarded by the reality of my current situation. That brought peace that was very welcomed because it was needed. All because God is the God of external & internal blessings i.e., blessings in totality.
Now my prayers are even changing and for sure I know that is all him. I am asking to exponentially build my ability to look at him because then, I will be flooded by what he will do because he has done it before. I know that personally because my testimony is that when I chose to look at him, He proved himself faithful as he always is and will be and has been.
Most of all I heard a sermon say perfectly last week, If God gave us his most precious gift, his Son, why won’t he give you everything! You can look and focus on your problem. It won’t change the situation but will change something. Your mindset and outlook and for the worst! The trick to getting everything is Look to Jesus, because All he does is mighty and Miraculous things.
God is good God is Great God is ultimately the Best!
